Why Braces?

Most people get braces to improve their smile. The main reason people with crooked teeth go to the dentist is to get their smile fixed.

What they don’t know is that the job of braces goes beyond just smile correction. The patient doesn’t realize that it isn’t just correction of the smile it is the correction of the functioning of the jaw and that the smile is a byproduct of the entire process.

The primary goal is to ensure that the upper and lower teeth fit together well and provide a normal bite. Having teeth and jaws in good alignment is the main idea, and a secondary result is that great smile.

Even though braces don’t directly have a bearing on one’s health, but they can have an impact on other areas. For instance, sometimes when teeth are not properly aligned, it can cause the face to be misshaped. This can be embarrassing for some people. When a person’s teeth are crooked it can also result in a lack of confidence which can affect them in many aspects of their life including at school, work, and at play.

Orthodontic treatments cover a lot more than just braces. Although that is mostly what they are known for, and a large part of what the dental professionals do, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye. They can provide treatment for a wide variety of conditions and reasons. Sometimes, they do diagnose problems and traditional braces, or modern treatment options like aligners are prescribed. But it’s much more complex than just having crooked teeth.

The following problems can be treated with the help of orthodontic treatment

  • Front Teeth that Protrude: Getting treatment from an orthodontist can improve a person’s appearance, but it can also help protect the teeth from getting damaged during sports or a fall.
  • Over Crowding Teeth: When a person has a narrow jaw, there’s not always enough room for all their teeth.
  • Tooth Impaction: When an adult tooth fails to emerge through the gums properly, or if it only partially emerges, it can become impacted.
  • Teeth that are Asymmetrical: For some people, the top and bottom teeth don’t quite match. Usually, this is most noticeable when the mouth is closed, and the teeth are still showing.
  • Overbite or a Deep BiteIf a person closed their mouth completely and the upper teeth come down too far in front of the lower teeth it’s called an overbite.
  • Open Bite: If you have an open bite, there’s an opening between the upper and lower teeth even when your teeth are clenched.
  • Underbite: Orthodontic treatment can help an underbite. If the upper teeth are too far back, or if the lower teeth are too far forward you may have an underbite.
  • Crossbite: If you have at least one upper tooth that doesn’t land slightly in front of your lower teeth when you clench your teeth, you likely have a crossbite. This may also be the case if your teeth are too near the tongue or the cheek.
  • Gaps: This is the opposite of crowding. If there are gaps between your teeth either because there is a tooth missing, or just because your teeth don’t fill the mouth up completely you have spacing issues that an orthodontist can fix.
  • TMJ: Does your jaw click? Do you clench your teeth?

CATCH THEM YOUNG AND WATCH THEM GROW

It is better to bring a child to the dentist for the correction of crooked teeth because their jaws are still young and developing because once puberty hits, the amount of growth hormones getting released also reduces.

A major benefit of receiving orthodontic treatment in childhood is that it's possible to take full advantage of a youngster's own natural growth process to treat or even prevent malocclusions (“bad bites”).

The use of functional appliances a key feature of interceptive orthodontics. In this treatment method, we take advantage of the body's natural growth patterns to guide the development of the jaws in a more favorable way. Early orthodontic treatment may reduce the time you need to wear braces — and it can also help you get a smile that looks great, and a bite that works the way it should.

Research has proven time and time again that uneven or crooked teeth can create serious issues in the mouth, especially if left uncorrected. Living with misalignment of the teeth or crooked rows can lead to plaque buildup, which eventually leads to periodontal disease if not treated.

At Vasupujya Pediatric Dental Hospital we think it is best to CATCH THEM YOUNG AND WATCH THEM GROW. The earlier the treatment starts the faster it finishes
