Is Milk Bad for Children?

Is Milk Bad for children?

No milk is not bad for children.

But milk getting stuck on the tooth surface due to improper feeding habits is really bad for your child.

The milk which gets stuck on the tooth ferments because the temperature of our body is 36 degrees Celsius.

The fermentation produces an acid which harms the enamel of the tooth turning the surface of the enamel from smooth to rough.

The roughness of the tooth surface then gives space for the bacteria to hide and multiple eventually causing a cavity.

This process of weakening of the enamel is called Demineralization.

Hence we at Vasupujya Dental Advise the parents to

  • Start brushing with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and a very small amount of toothpaste (the size of a grain of rice) when your child's first tooth appears. Use a pea-sized dab of fluoridated toothpaste after 6 years of age.
  • Prevent baby bottle tooth decay. Don't give children a bottle of milk, juice, or sweetened liquid at bedtime or when put down to nap.
