Can Adults Wear Braces ?

The answer is YES!!!!!

It is never too late to get braces there isn’t any age limit to get braces.

Research has proven time and time again that uneven or crooked teeth can create serious issues in the mouth, especially if left uncorrected. Living with misalignment of the teeth or crooked rows can lead to plaque buildup, which eventually leads to periodontal disease if not treated.

Also some kinds of mal-alignment cause attrition of teeth. The continuous attrition over the year eventually causes sensitivity.

Although braces have long been thought of as only necessary for children with crooked or misaligned teeth, many adults are getting in on the action too. If you’ve ever stopped yourself from grinning in public, covered a genuine smile or refused to take a picture while actually showing off your pearly whites, a change may bet he best decision to make.

  • Overcrowding – This is the most popular form of mal-occlusions especially in adults. It refers to the crowding of teeth due to insufficient space. This can easily be treated by wearing braces or removing some of the teeth to create space.
  • Overbite – Although it is normal for the upper front teeth to overlap with the lower ones, it becomes abnormal if the lower upper teeth extend to the lower gum or if the lower front teeth bite into your roof’s mouth.
  • Crossbite – This happens when the upper teeth bite inside the lower ones. It can happen on one or both sides of your jaw.
  • Impacted teeth – These are teeth that are unable to push through the gum naturally. They need to either be exposed or extracted.

Even though these issues may be normal and common, you don’t have to live with them.

Orthodontic treatment, with its core philosophy of correcting teeth positioning and jaw alignment, offers numerous benefits including:

  • Clearer speech
  • Correcting an improper bite
  • Improved ability to chew food
  • Closed large spaces between teeth
  • Cleaner teeth when brushing, which can reduce the risk of gum disease
  • Providing proper tooth alignment

Alignment will help in getting cleaner teeth. When teeth develop in awkward spacing, overlapping or odd angles, it can be hard to complete a cleaning. Consistent brushing of the teeth is essential, but so is hitting those hard to reach areas. If areas are being missed constantly, real issues can develop.

We get our nutrition through the food we chew. If the teeth cannot meet properly to chew food, larger pieces will have to be digested. This can negatively affect the digestive tract, as well as increasing the chances of overall oral damage in terms of chips and cracks.

At Vasupujya Pediatric Dental Hospital we think, better late than never. It is never too late to correct your smile and it will always be worth it!
