At Home Dental Care for 0-2 Years Old

This is the time of the child’s life where the parents have to do most of the work. The duty of maintaining oral hygiene is passed on to child over the years as he/she grows up.

Dental Health Care for 0-2 Year Old Children

Before teeth erupt, clean your baby’s MOUTH and GUMS with a soft cloth or an infant tooth brush or a finger brush at bath time. This will not keep the baby’s oral cavity clean but it will prepare your baby for the teeth cleaning to come.

If your baby is given a bottle when going to sleep, use nothing but WATER. Bottles containing any sugary liquids or carbohydrates such as milk formula or fruit juice put their teeth in attack from bacterial acid all night long.

NEVER dip the pacifier in anything sweet

Give your baby a firm rubber teething ring to chew on and help with the discomfort and potential pain of teething. Avoid any liquid-filled rings or any plastic object that might break

Talk to your pediatric dentist about the right amount of FLUORIDE for your child. The parents should ask the dentist if their child should be brushing with toothpaste that contains fluoride and/or if your child needs fluoride treatment.

In our country most people have an RO water purifier installed at their home. The RO water purifier removes all the fluoride present in the water along with all the harmful substances. So we can say that the amount of fluoride being consumed by us is negligible. Hence it advised to use fluoridated tooth paste for all children.

The only thing which will differ according to age is the amount of fluoridated toothpaste to be used.

For children of ages 0-2 yrs the amount of fluoridated toothpaste to be used should be equal to the size of a GRAIN OF RICE.

Ayurvedic toothpaste shouldn’t be used as they do not contain sufficient amount of fluoride Take your child to see a pediatric dentist by his or her first birthday to establish a DENTAL HOME.
