Are Braces Expensive?

The cost of the treatment is an important aspect of decision making for any treatment.

The cost of the treatment depends on 2 factors

·       The Amount & Type of Discrepancy (which decides the longevity of the treatment)

·       Aesthetic Quotient

The Amount & Type of Discrepancy

The amount and of discrepancy basically means how complicated the malocclusion is. The more complicated the malocclusion the longer it takes to correct it. The type of malocclusion also plays a major role in deciding the treatment modality. It depends on the case.Every patient is different.

The age of the patient plays a major role in determining the longevity of the treatment in younger patients the treatment goes on for a shorter amount of time. Since the child’s jaw is still developing and not all teeth have erupted the dentists can use this to their advantage and make them wear an appliance for shaping their jaw which will help in reducing the time the child will have to wear fixed braces. The treatment in adults takes longer as the bone of the jaw has already taken its shape and isn’t as easily molded as a child’s jaw.

So we can say that as the amount of discrepancy and the type of discrepancy increases the length of the treatment increases which eventually causes the cost of the treatment to increase.

Aesthetic Quotient

There are three options patients have while going for teeth alignment

·       Metallic Braces

·       Ceramic Braces

·       Aligners

The cost of the treatment goes higher as the aesthetic quotient of the treatment goes up.

Aligners are the latest advancement in the field of orthodontics. Getting fitted with braces as an adult can be a daunting change, especially for those that have never had any kind of treatment before. Although braces can be a major lifestyle change, there are many different forms to choose from. Many adults face the thought of choosing between traditional treatment and invisible forms. When a patient wears them, no one can realize that they are undergoing treatment for teeth alignment. Aligners are often considered more comfortable than metal braces, as the aligners consist of smooth, easy wearable plastic. Also no diet modifications are to be done in case of aligners whereas if you are wearing braces there are some dietary restrictions. But every patient is not a candidate for aligners. The dentist first will have to check if the patient is eligible for it or not.

Ceramic Braces are the more aesthetic form of braces. They are tooth colored braces and hence are less visible form of braces. One can’t make out that you are wearing braces if they are standing at a distance from you they can only realize that you are wearing braces if they are standing close to you.

Metallic Braces are the most commonly worn type of braces and are being used for the longest time. They are not the most aesthetic form of braces but are being used for teeth alignment for the longest time and are strong and durable.

Also orthodontic treatments tend to be more expensive because they are time consuming. The patient has to visit the dentist at least once a month and the appointments are 20 minutes on an average.

At Vasupujya Pediatric Dental Hospital we used the best materials. We only use materials by 3M and American Orthodontics (AO).

We can use other materials which are of a lower cost but we do not want to compromise on the kind of treatment we provide to our patients. We only use the most sophisticated forms of technology for aligning the perfect smile for our patients.
